Calgary Flames at Ottawa Senators – 3/24/21 NHL Picks and Prediction

Pick details

The Calgary Flames and the Ottawa Senators meet in NHL action from the Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday night.

The Calgary Flames will look to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to the Senators last time out. Elias Lindholm leads the Flames in scoring with 28 points including a team-high 20 assists while Johnny Gaudreau had 25 points with a team-high 13 goals along with 12 assists. Matthew Tkachuk also has 25 points with 17 assists along with a team-high 97 shots on goal this season. As a team, Calgary is averaging 2.6 goals on 29.8 shots per game with a 20.2% success rate on the PP while giving up 3 goals per game on 30 shots against per game with an 80.4% success rate on the PK this season.

The Ottawa Senators will attempt to build on their win over Calgary in their last matchup. Brady Tkachuk leads the Senators in scoring with 22 points including a team-high 11 goals and 11 assists while Drake Batherson has 21 points with 11 goals and 10 apples. Tkachuk also has 142 shots on goal as well this season. Thomas Chabot also has 20 points with a team-high 16 assists this season while Tim Stutzle has 19 points with 13 assists. As a team, Ottawa is averaging 2.6 goals on 31.6 shots including a 14.4% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.8 goals on 32 shots against per game with a 75% success rate on the PK this season.

Calgary is 1-4 in their last 5 home games and 1-4 in their last 5 Wednesday games while the over is 7-2-2 in their last 11 games as a favorite. Ottawa is 20-47 in their last 67 games overall and 15-38 in their last 53 games following a win while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games as a home underdog. The home team is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.

I get the case that could be made for either side here as Calgary’s the better team but Ottawa’s battled their hardest on home ice this season. However, what I can say for sure is that there’s been an offensive struggle on both sides lately, and a 2-1 game is the epitome of that for both sides right now. I very well think another 2-1 game could be on the cards here, so I’ll take the under in this one.
