Troy at Appalachian State: 1/2/21 College Basketball Picks and Predictions

The Troy Trojans and Appalachian State Mountaineers face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at  Holmes Center.

On Friday the Troy Trojans were able to come away with a 69-56 victory over Appalachian Stat . Nick Stampley and Khaylal Waters were the top players for Troy both finishing with 17 points. James Lewis was the leader for App State putting up 16 points. 

Troy has been inconsistent this year but they have won two games in a row. Each of the last two games, the Troy defense has stepped up and that led to a victory. On the season Troy is averaging 57 points per game while their defense is giving up 71.3 points per game. Troy overall this season has had issues shooting the ball averaging 33.2 percent from the field and 22.8 percent from behind the three point line. Troy is led by Zay Williams who averages 12.4 points and shoots 48.6 percent from the field.

On the other side of this matchup is the Appalachian State Mountaineers who have lost two games in a row and the offense hasn’t been good in either of the games. Two games ago against Auburn they only gave up 67 points, but the offense could only manage 53 points. On the season App State is averaging 61.8 points per game while their defense is giving up 68.4 points per game. Appalachian State is led by Adrian Delph who averages 12 points and shoots 46.4 percent from the field.

The under is 7-1 in Troy’s last 8 overall. Troy is  5-12-1 against the spread  in their last 18 games overall. The under is 15-5 in App State’s last 20 home games. The under is 10-4 in App State’s last 14 Saturday games. App State is 6-14 against the spread in their last 20 home games.

App State struggled on Friday, but I think in this game their offense is going to find more offensive success. This is going to be a close game but Appalachian State is going to come away with a cover of the spread.
