The Mercer Bears and the Chattanooga Mocs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from McKenzie Arena. Mercer is sitting at 14-15 on the year after a win over UNC Greensboro over the weekend. As for Chattanooga, they dropped to 19-10 overall following a loss to the Citadel on Saturday. Let’s get into our Mercer vs. Chattanooga prediction. Mercer Bears

The Bears’ season kicked off on a rough 8-12 run through their first 20 games. Mercer has collected themselves for a 6-3 stretch since then however, beating UNC Greensboro, VMI, Furman, Samford, the Citadel and UNC Greensboro again in that time. The losses came to ETSU, Western Carolina and Wofford.

In their rematch with UNC Greensboro on Saturday, the Bears were down 39-38 in the locker room, Mercer got it going in the second half though, hitting a 48-33 stretch for a victory 86-72 in the end. Tops on the team was Jake Davis with 21 points, two steals, one assist and one rebound.

Chattanooga Mocs

Over on the Mocs’ side, they were sitting at 10-7 back in mid-January. Chattanooga has played much better on a 9-3 run over their last 12, though. The wins came versus Mercer, ETSU (twice), Wofford (twice), the Citadel, Western Carolina, VMI and UNC Greensboro across that stretch.

Chattanooga fell back into the loss column during their last outing versus the Citadel on Saturday. The Mocs were up comfortably 36-26 by halftime but lost the handle on a 45-26 second-half run for a 71-62 result. Honor Huff was the top scorer with his 20 points and three assists.

ANDREW’S FREE MERCER VS CHATTANOOGA PREDICTION

I’ll lean toward Chattanooga. The Mocs need to get their offense going, though; they’ve been below 66 points in two of the last three games. One of those was their latest loss to the Citadel, in which Chattanooga shot just 38.3 percent and had 18 turnovers. The rebounding (37) was good, though. The Mocs have hit 73 or more points in their last 11 straight wins, so it’ll be important to get moving on the scoreboard here.

The good news is that Chattanooga took a 74-60 road win the last time these teams met up back on January 17. The Mocs should be primed for a solid offensive performance in the home rematch and I think they’ll cover in the end.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Chattanooga Mocs -8
