The Line: Betting Odds: Monmouth Hawks +2.5 — Over/Under: 145
The Hofstra Pride and the Monmouth Hawks meet Saturday in college basketball action from Multipurpose Activity Center. Hofstra is fresh off a Thursday matchup versus William & Mary. In that one the Pride improved to 11-9 with a victory. As for Monmouth, they played Stony Brook in their last game. The 10-10 Hawks went on to lose by seven points. Let’s get into our Hofstra vs. Monmouth prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.
Hofstra Pride
The Pride got off to a nice start this year at 6-2 overall. Hofstra was only able to go 4-7 in their next 11 games though, falling to Saint Louis, Duke, UNLV, St. John’s, Charleston, Northeastern and Campbell with wins over Norfolk State, Delaware, Hampton and Stony Brook otherwise.
In the William & Mary game on Thursday, the Pride didn’t have a ton of issues overall despite a bit of a slow start. After a 28-22 first half, Hofstra scored 36 more points in a 64-55 win. Leading the team was German Plotnikov with his 15 points and one rebound in the victory.
Monmouth Hawks
Over on the Hawks’ side, their year began on a .500 run through 10 games. Monmouth hovered around that mark on a 5-4 run over the next nine, taking out Rider, Manhattan, Towson, Northeastern and Hampton with losses to Oklahoma, UNC Wilmington, Charleston and Drexel otherwise.
Matched up against Stony Brook in their Thursday game, the Hawks were down 24-20 by halftime. Monmouth hit a 48-45 deficit in the second and ended up losing 72-65. Xander Rice was the team’s leading contributor with 18 points and four rebounds in the defeat.
ANDREW’S FREE HOFSTRA VS MONMOUTH PREDICTION
I’ll just stick with Hofstra here. The Pride were able to handle a struggling William & Mary team pretty well in their last outing, shooting 42.9 percent from the field with 35 rebounds and 15 team assists. Hofstra has only eclipsed 68 points twice in the last five games, so a big offensive showing here would be encouraging.
As for Monmouth, they’ve given up 69 or more points in each of the last five games (a 1-4 run) but to be fair four of those were on the road. Hofstra should still have plenty of scoring opportunities here, and I like the Pride to power out the cover.
