The Dayton Flyers and the Duquesne Dukes meet Friday in college basketball action from Palumbo Center. Dayton is currently 12-2 overall and coming off a win over UMass. As for Duquesne, they lost to Loyola in their last outing which dropped the Dukes to 9-5 on the season. Let’s get into our Dayton vs. Duquesne prediction. Dayton Flyers
The Flyers started out the year on a 3-2 run with losses to Northwestern and Houston. Since then Dayton has been riding a nine-game win streak, taking out Youngstown State, SMU, Grambling, Troy, Cincinnati, Oakland, Longwood, Davidson and UMass in that stretch.
In the win over UMass, the Flyers were up 38-29 by the second half. Dayton was outscored 31-26 from there but managed to hang on for the win 64-60. Leading the team in scoring was DaRon Holmes with his 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Duquesne Dukes
Over on the Dukes’ side, they managed to win eight of their first 10 games this year over Cleveland State, Charleston, Stony Brook, Rider, UC Irvine, Marshall, Saint Peter’s and Bradley. Duquesne has lost three of their last four though, versus Santa Clara, UMass and Loyola.
Matched up against Loyola back on Saturday, the Dukes held a four-point lead in the locker room. Duquesne was outscored 36-27 from there however, leading to a 72-67 defeat. David Dixon led the team in the losing effort, coming off the bench with 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
ANDREW’S FREE DAYTON VS DUQUESNE PREDICTION
I’ll lean toward Dayton here. The Flyers had a fairly close call versus a pretty good UMass team in their last matchup, shooting just 38.3 percent from the field with a 45-33 rebounding deficit (20-6 offensive). Dayton had hit 72 or more points in six straight games prior to that however, so I like them to get back to form on Friday.
As for Duquesne, they’ve managed a tepid 128 combined points in their last pair. The Dukes are capable of scoring pretty well in the right matchups, so this one could be a high total in the end. That said, I like the Flyers a little better on the potential cover/win.
