Arkansas State Red Wolves

It’s been a pretty wild season for the Red Wolves. After starting a rough 8-13 over their first 21 outings, Arkansas State has gone 7-1 over the last eight. Those victories have come versus Southern Miss, LA-Monroe, Ohio, Troy (twice) and South Alabama (twice) with a lone loss to James Madison mixed in.

In their rematch versus South Alabama over the weekend, the Red Wolves entered halftime with a 47-36 edge. Arkansas State closed on a 48-42 advantage and took the victory 95-78. Tops in scoring was Derrian Ford with his 23 points, six rebounds and two assists in 39 minutes.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they were only able to get six wins over their first 20 games this season. The Chanticleers are just 2-5 in their last seven with losses to James Madison, Marshall, LA-Monroe, Georgia State and Old Dominion. The wins came versus Georgia Southern and Marshall otherwise.

Back on Saturday versus Old Dominion, the Chanticleers were down 31-28 going into the second half. Coastal Carolina didn’t get any closer on a 44-31 deficit from there and lost 75-59 in the end. Ginika Ojiako managed to bag a double-double on 17 points with 13 rebounds in the losing effort.

ANDREW’S FREE ARKANSAS STATE VS COASTAL CAROLINA PREDICTION

I’ll stick with Arkansas State. The Red Wolves are playing better these days and coming off a nice effort versus South Alabama. Arkansas State shot 52.3 percent in that one with 34 rebounds, 23 assists and just six turnovers. That makes 73 or more points in 11 straight games.

As for Coastal Carolina, they’re at least scoring well lately. The Chanticleers have 71 or more points in six of their last eight games (a 3-5 run) so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them notch a decent total here. I like a good offensive effort from both sides in an eventual Arkansas State cover.
