Arizona Wildcats
The Wildcats went a solid 14-5 over their first 19 outings, taking losses to only Purdue, Florida Atlantic, Stanford, Washington State and Oregon State. Arizona is 7-1 in their last eight with wins over Oregon, California, Stanford, Utah, Colorado, Arizona State and Washington alongside a lone loss to Washington State.
Back on Saturday versus Washington, Arizona jumped out to a dominant 52-35 halftime edge. The Wildcats took it easy from there on a 40-39 second half and bagged the win 91-75 in the end. Leading team scorer Caleb Love had 28 points while Oumar Ballo doubled on 14 points and 14 boards.
Arizona State Sun Devils
Over on the Arizona State side, they started out on a decent 10-5 run but have won just four games since January 6. The Sun Devils are playing better over the last five outings at 3-2 however, beating Utah, Oregon State and Washington State along with losses to Arizona and Washington.
Matched up against Washington State over the weekend, the Sun Devils were up by seven points going into the second half. Arizona State closed on a 37-32 run to pull off the upset victory 73-61. Jose Perez topped the team with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in the winning effort.
ANDREW’S FREE ARIZONA VS ARIZONA STATE PREDICTION
I’ll stay with Arizona. The Wildcats didn’t have much trouble versus a middling Washington team in their last game (outside of the 14 turnovers, that is), hitting 47.1 percent from the field with a nice 51-35 rebounding edge and 22 team assists. That makes 74 or more points in 11 straight games for Arizona—a 9-2 stretch.
These teams last saw each other pretty recently: February 17 in a 105-60 blowout win at home for the Wildcats. Arizona shot 57.1 percent from the field with 46 rebounds, 21 assists and just five turnovers in an all-around dominant performance during that victory. This road rematch will likely be significantly closer, especially with the Sun Devils coming off a strong outing in an upset win at ASU Wells Fargo. Arizona should still be in line for the cover if the Wildcats play to their capabilities, though.
